The Wise Woman of Stitching.
I've had so many of you ask me how to do freezer paper applique, that I thought I'd do a tutorial on it and give you my Lovebird Pincushion design so you can practise.
These little pincushions are so easy to make and look really gorgeous in a bowl all clustered together or three piled on top of one another and tied with a pretty ribbon.
What a fabulous gift they'd make for a special person.
Maybe you could add a tin of pins with the Lovebird Pincushion.
Making the Lovebird Template.
Tear off two pieces of freezer paper that will be large enough for the design to fit on to.
Trace the Lovebird design onto the shiny side of the freezer paper.
This automatically mirror- reverses the shape. Which means you don't have to remember to reverse the shapes.
The freezer paper will stick to the ironing board- but it just peels off- and is ready to stick again.
With two pieces of freezer paper - the template is much stronger, and can be used over and over again.
The freezer paper template will stick to the fabric when you iron it in pllace.
Now for the fun part!
Remember the little pot of spray starch you put to one side?
Now's the time to use it.
Make sure you press the fabric tightly onto the template so that the fabric takes on the shape of the template.
Check that the applique shape is centred on the background fabric before stitching in place.
